In Reception we believe children learn best through their play and first-hand experiences. Children are given opportunities to explore their interests and this informs the fun activities we provide. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum; our activities are inclusive and adapted for individual children’s needs.

A typical day in Reception is based on child-initiated learning, where children are given the time, resources, and adult support to initiate their own learning. Through play, they rehearse and practise their newly acquired knowledge, which is always wonderful to observe.

Your child will have access to a wide range of opportunities and challenges to develop their fine motor and gross motor skills. Daily there are adult focussed sessions which include phonics, maths, and literacy. Our topics generally follow the interests of our children, some of our topics have been, Hibernation, Pirates, Ships, All about Me and Winter Festivals.
